Location: South Hero, Vermont, in Grand Isle County
Description: These trails include Round Pond State Park, Landon Community Trail, and Landon-Round Pond Connector. Together, they make for a pleasant trail ride totaling 3.5 miles. The lands are owned, preserved, and managed by a combination of private landowners, the State of Vermont, Vermont Land Trust, Lake Champlain Land Trust, South Hero Land Trust, and the Nature Conservancy.
Another nearby ride is the Roy Marsh Trail. It is not connected to the Round Pond/Landon Farm trails, but is a 5-minute drive away so you could ride both in one day for a 7-mile total ride.
Terrain: Mowed paths in open fields and trails in a mixed deciduous and evergreen forest. Relatively flat with some hilly spots. There is a short section of about 1/10 of a mile on the grassy shoulder of a quiet paved road.
Trail map: For an interactive map that you can follow while riding, click this link to AllTrails.
Access: The area can be accessed from Exit 17 on Interstate 89. Take Rt. 2 west and shortly after crossing the causeway to Grand Isle, turn left onto Landon Rd. After 3/4 mile turn left onto E. Shore Rd. In 0.2 miles there is a gate on the left side of the road, which is the trailhead. Click here for the exact location.
Parking: Unfortunately, parking is extremely limited. At the gate there is a small pull-off. There is room for 2 trailers, but if cars are already parked there you’ll be lucky to fit one trailer. It is not a heavily used area so often there are no other vehicles. But we recommend avoiding peak times. You can turn your rig around at an intersection less than 1/2 mile up E. Shore Rd.
Restrictions and safety warnings:
- There is a horse farm just up the road – please do NOT park there.
- Other recreation includes hiking, cross-country skiing, and hunting.
- The Landon Community Trail section of the trail is closed during rifle deer season.
