Saturday – The Mappiest Day of the Week June 19, 2018 July 15, 2019 Kerrie Garvey

So, if you have read any of my previous blog posts or know me at all, you know that while I really love trail riding, I pretty much just love horses and riding. I also do dressage, jumping, and eventing. This past weekend I had the good fortune to be able to ride my friend’s horse Clayton and Monica’s horse Tupelo in addition to my awesome boy Prophet.

I decided to map my rides over the weekend to see just what the heck my rides would look like from a bird’s eye perspective. Why, you may ask, would I do that? Well, because I am a big nerd obviously.

Clayton and I had a fun jump school. He’s a bit green when it comes to jumping, and I had never jumped him before. As such, we did some small courses and some single jumps and schooled on the flat in between. From my data I found that we traveled 1.47 miles and rode for approximately 30 minutes. Our fastest speed was 10.65 miles per hour. It looked a little something like this:

Next I rode Tupelo for a dressage school. Tupelo tends to be fairly stiff through his body, so we work a lot on bending and suppleing. We rode for about half an hour for this ride and traveled 2.01 miles. Our fastest speed was 10.89 miles per hour. Circle much?

Finally, I took Prophet out on a trail ride with a couple of friends. We did some trail clearing work from horseback during the ride and did a little cantering in some fields. (And, wow, can I just say how awesome my horse is? I was pruning large branches and snapping dead limbs from his back. He didn’t so much as flinch or move a foot. Pretty impressive!) We went 5.02 miles in 1 hour and 23 minutes. Our fastest speed was 14.2 miles per hour.

My point? I don’t really have one! I just think it’s neat to be able to see a record of my rides. I also think it’s interesting that even though I feel like I am always just going around on the rail when I ride in the ring, that’s obviously not the case. All three types of riding are all great and serve an important purpose.

Happy Trails!
